What is counted

Google Analytics 4 records the pages people open and where each visitor came from. Google works out the device type, browser, screen size, language and approximate location (country and city) from the connection. Google Analytics does not store IP addresses.

The site also sends a few events of its own, to learn what is useful:

• a click on the CV download or on the LinkedIn link, and the button's position on the page;
• a role expanded on the experience timeline, and its name;
• a project visit or an architecture diagram shown, with its name;
• an article read to about three quarters of its length, and its URL;
• a search typed on the Writing page (the words are not recorded).

Nothing you type is kept, and no part of this site asks for a name or an email address.

Cookies

The site itself sets these three and no others.

valeev_consent

Remembers whether you allowed analytics. Set only when you answer. Kept for 1 year.

valeev_internal

Set only when the site owner marks his own browser, to keep his visits out of the numbers. Kept for 1 year.

_ga and _ga_ followed by the property ID

Google Analytics, a random ID that tells a returning visitor from a new one. Set only when analytics runs. Kept for 13 months.

The site is served through Cloudflare, which may set a short-lived security cookie (__cf_bm) to filter out bots.

What is switched off

Google Signals and ad personalization are off, and no data is shared for advertising. Analytics here only counts visits; it does not follow you across other websites.

Your choice

Visitors in the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland, and anyone whose location cannot be determined, see a banner first. Nothing is sent to Google until they press Allow. Elsewhere, analytics runs without asking.

To change your answer at any time, use the Cookies button at the bottom of every page. Choosing Decline deletes any analytics IDs already set.
